the BC Studio documentary, "Sound and Chaos" screens at The New Parkway Theatre at 7pm - and immediately after q&a, there is an after-party and show ($5) at Stork Club.

Bisi has assembled a special bill to celebrate the film’s release, featuring Bay Area art rock trio Grex, Steve Mackay of the Stooges (with his Third Thursday Band), French punk band Savage Riposte, and improvisations with Mark Miller (Toy Killers) and Fred Frith (Massacre).

Martin Bisi and BC Studios participated in the creation of landmark recordings by Sonic Youth, Swans, John Zorn, Bill Laswell and Material, Herbie Hancock, Sonny Sharrock, Live Skull, and many more. “Sound and Chaos: The Story of BC Studio” is the first documentary covering this unique and important nexus of 80’s downtown music, exploring a crucial moment in American progressive music.

Bisi’s commemorative show at Oakland’s renowned Stork Club will feature Oakland-based trio Grex, a band called “completely original” (Eugene Weekly) and a "near- seamless blend of modern jazz, indie rock, and blues rock” (Tiny Mix Tapes), Steve Mackay’s earthy punk-cum-roots rock Third Thursday project, and the fiery French punk band Savage Riposte.

Joining Bisi for his own set will be a reunion of notable figures hailing from the 80’s downtown NY scene, including Fred Frith (whose wild, fiery guitar histrionics graced albums such as Massacre’s Killing Time and Material’s Memory Serves), Toy Killers percussionist Mark Miller, Mackay, and drummer Shiela Bosco.
