Hadley McCarroll, piano; Monica Scott, 'cello

Matthew Goodheart - “for piano and cello(s)” 2014
Ludwig van Beethoven - Sonata for Cello and Piano in D Major, Op. 102/2 1815
Sergei Rachmaninoff - Sonata for Cello and Piano 1900

This concert is the second in a series of three programs exploring music written just prior to or after the turns of the nineteenth, twentieth and twentieth-first centuries. As part of the performance, we have invited composer, scholar and violinist Erik Ulman to moderate an open discussion which will contextualize the works through the lens of culture, politics and art. At the beginning of each new century are we glancing back or looking forward? What influences composers from century to century? Come for the conversation and music, then, join us after the concert for a reception and continued lively discussion. The remaining program will be performed in February 2015, and will feature music by Thomas Adès, Claude Debussy, and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Tickets: $20 General, $17 Seniors/$5 full-time students
