"9 Fingers"
9Fingers with Andrew Jamieson and David Douglas.
"9 Fingers" is a translation of name of the the West African Dununba rhythm "Bolokonondo," an energetic initiation dance generated from interlocking patterns and an uneven phrasing. This keyboard/drum duo performs compositions that require the rhythmic discipline and spontaneity of Dununba drumming. They capture its energy by reinterpreting Bolokonondo and weaving together new rhythms and patterns.
Ron Heglin (voice) and
Tim Perkis(electronics) will perform a "stripped-down" duo of voice with a simple monophonic synthesizer accompaniment. The intention of this music is to be quiet and contemplative, the interplay of two voices.
In other contexts,
Ron Heglin is also a low-brass player (Tuba, Euphonium, Trombone) and
Tim Perkis is a computer musician. Both are experienced improvisers who have played in many mixed ensemble contexts.
