Cantina (NY), Shit Show (NY), Shark Week

Shark Week is Fortress Callosum's "other" house band — the one we don't talk about. You don't know us. But you're about to. We have an origin story involving menstrual synchrony, a cold warehouse of unused instruments, and a thirst for hunger. We invite you all to experience Shark Week's first public performance, which may involve enough unnecessary distortion to start a fire and/or shredding glockenspiel solos from hell, depending on how sexy the crowd is.

Cantina is absolutely beautiful music by every measure. With richly verbed guitar, singularly pleasant progressions and musical dynamics, and delicious melody choices perfectly intoned by a voice of immense depth. It is an unexpected pleasure to have Renata Zeiguer at Fortress Callosum for a show.

With just enough plucky guitar and songbird melodies to qualify as country music, combined with a judicious use of screaming, Shit Show is the most deceptively vicious band in the history of new york punk rock. Paige Johnson-Brown's lyrics are curt, spiteful, and apropos, her eyeliner is more immaculate than Dax's on prom night, and her stage energy more feverish than Avery with a megaphone. If Shit Show were an Evangelion, not even the combined powers Little Teeth could save San Francisco.
