A native of San Francisco, Custodio began playing congas at age 11 thanks to the encouragement of his neighbor, Karl Perazzo (Santana). Perazzo was his first percussion teacher and introduced him to afro-latin rhhythms. Custodio landed his first gig on nationally syndicated television in San Francisco for a children's television program that featured a kid band. As a teenager, Andre played congas in his father's cover-rock band, playing small clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area, thereby beginning his extensive involvement in the Bay Area music scene. He eventually became a trap kit drummer.

He furthered his music education in College, studying drums privately with Bob Danielson (Beach Blanket Babylon) and Mat Marucci (John Tchicai). Equally comfortable playing jazz, hardcore punk, soft rock or free-form improv, Custodio's drumming draws from a myriad of influences. He currently teaches drums at his studio in the Temescal of Oakland, CA. He has several critically acclaimed independent recordings, including those with Ernesto Diaz-Infante, LX Rudis, Tri-Cornered Tent Show and Say Bok Gwai. In addition to his work as a drummer, he has developed recordings and performances in experimental electronics under the moniker Nihil Communication.

His current focus is on his jazz quartet Consensual Bop in addition to teaching and projects as time allows in addition to practicing as much as he can. He considers himself a work-in-progress.
