The Sun Ra Arkestra directed by Marshall Allen makes a rare Bay Area appearance. Led by alto saxophonist Marshall Allen, the 15 piece big band features 12 members who performed with Sun Ra for more than 20 years. Marshall Allen has been a featured soloist in the Arkestra (on alto saxophone and flute) for over 40 years. Marshall has been directing the Arkesta since 1988.
The Arkestra continues to travel the world - performing at festivals in Europe and Japan. Paying tribute to the legendary Sun Ra, the Arkestra blends theater, dancing, singing, chanting, afro-pagentry and swinging big band jazz.
