Eddie Gale Jam Session 7-10PM
Every third Monday of the month, legendary jazz trumpeter,Eddie Gale, leads this free-form jam session. Eddie Gale’s early jazz education included trumpet lessons from the great Kenny Dorham as well as serious woodshedding. As a developing musician, it was important to know how to jam on the tunes of Monk, Miles, Charlie Parker, and Sonny Rollins, in order to be able to ‘sit in’. In the early ‘60s, Gale was introduced to Sun Ra, and spent many hours exposed to Sun Ra’s philosophy about music and life. Gale soon earned a spot in the Arkestra. Gale performed and recorded with Cecil Taylor, and first came to California when he performed in residence with the Cecil Taylor Unit and played the Berkeley Jazz Festival. Gale had the opportunity to know and sit in with John Coltrane on many occasions. GALE currently lives in San Jose, and in 1974, he received the honorary title San Jose’s Ambassador Of Jazz.
Next month’s jam session will be Monday, August 18.
