21 Grand presents an evening of electroacoustic soundscapes w/ Ben Manley and Chris "Heco" Davis
Ben Manley explores unpredictable interactions from diverse
electroacoustic sources to generate environments with musical
liveliness and immediacy. Using an inter-patched array of small
devices on a large table top, Manley
investigates the acoustics of the space, and then tries to make the
most of the moment.
"It's live electroacoustic/electromechanical performance with shifting
soundscapes that don't sound very electronic. It's a
kind of improv, but more of a dialogue with the room, because what's
generated can be unpredictable." - Ben Manley
Oakland's Heco Davis plays saxophones and reeds in the Bay Area band
MonoPause and is possibly the world's only 78-rpm DJ. In his solo "DJ"
performance, last seen at New Langton Art's "Crawling Out From Under
Rock" showcase, Davis presents a subtle melding of environmental sounds
and quiet noise.
