Eddie Gale Jam Session
7-10 PM
Legendary jazz trumpeter, Eddie Gale, leads this monthly free-form jam session, featuring musicians young and older with varying degrees of experience. Eddie Gale’s early jazz education included lessons from the great Kenny Dorham as well as serious woodshedding. In the early ‘60s, Gale was introduced to Sun Ra, and soon earned a spot in the Arkestra. Gale performed and recorded with Cecil Taylor, and had the opportunity to know and sit in with John Coltrane on many occasions. Gale first came to California when he performed with the Cecil Taylor Unit and played the Berkeley Jazz Festival, which also featured Miles Davis and Carmen McRae. Some of Gale’s late ‘60s recordings as a band leader on Blue Note have been recently re-released. Gale lives in San Jose.
The jam session is open to all, bring your instrument of choice and join in.
