Thomas Stereo (Wobbly+Mark Gunderson) + CMAU

The Thomas Stereo is a vintage consumer electronic item, with an 8-track deck, its sound yielding the warmth of solid-state tubes fancied by many audiophiles. This Thomas Stereo is a duo of two pre-eminent electronic musicians of the Plunderphonic realm, Wobbly and (Trade)Mark Gunderson, of Evolution Control Committee. Wobbly’s first Bay Area musical forays were live performances on the legendary KPFA radio show, “Over The Edge,” hosted (due to his responsibility as FCC licensee) by Negativland’s Don Joyce. Both Wobbly and Gunderson are sample-manipulators that also take to live performance well. This is a rare chance to see the two of them collaborate, i.e., in stereo.

CMAU is a quartet of experimental musicians formed at Mills College that uses contact microphones to amplify homemade instruments and found objects (dry ice, toy piano, motors, cracked cymbals, springs, etc.), incorporating sampling, live computer synthesis and processing.
