Songs From a Book of Days
The Robin Cox Ensemble with Eve Beglarian and Sarah Cahill

New Langton Arts presents the Bay Area premiere of "Songs From a Book of Days," a new multi-media chamber work by New York composer Eve Beglarian, performed by the Robin Cox Ensemble. Songs is a meditative multi-media song cycle incorporating diverse spiritual and contemporary texts, from Zen lessons to the Gospel, to Ovid, Stephen King, medieval plainchant, and Czeslaw Milosz.

The Los Angeles-based Robin Cox Ensemble, a quintet of violin, cello, bass clarinet and two percussionists, performs nine newly-orchestrated selections from "Songs." The ensemble is joined by guest musicians Beglarian (voice) and the Bay Area¹s own Sarah Cahill (piano). Bay Area video artist Mechele Manno contributes new video work to the performance.

Eve Beglarian is a composer, performer and audio producer whose chamber and orchestral music has been commissioned and performed by the Bang on a Can All-Stars, the California EAR Unit, Relâche, the Paul Dresher Ensemble, Orchestra X, Sequitur and the New York Festival of Song, among many others.

Current projects include an opera based on Stephen King's The Man in the Black Suit with co-librettist and director Grethe Holby; Re-Thinking Mary, a performance to be developed at the Atlantic Center for the Arts; and a co-commission for The Bilitis Songbook, with boombox virtuoso and composer Phil Kline. Beglarian¹s music has been recorded on the CRI Emergency Music, OO Discs, Accurate Distortion, Atavistic, and Kill Rock Stars labels. She lives in New York.
