JP Carter - bio
Trumpeter/composer/experimentalist JP Carter is a dynamic force in Vancouver's vibrant and diverse music community. He's an integral member of great Vancouver-based bands like the Tony Wilson Sextet, Inhabitants, Carsick, Aeroplanes, Great Aunt Ida and Fond of Tigers. Called "an intrepid sound explorer" by La Scena Musicale, JP does indeed have a unique approach to the trumpet, endeavering to continue further upon a path led by Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Don Cherry, Chet Baker and Lester Bowie. Other notable influences include Ludwig van Beethoven, Duke Ellington, Hank Williams, Charles Mingus, Johnny Cash, John Coltrane, The Beatles, Ornette Coleman, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Nirvana and Sonic Youth. He's had the pleasure of working with great innovators like Bill Laswell, Dave Douglas, Steve Beresford, Wayne Horvitz, Peggy Lee and Butch Morris along the way. A sucker for adventure, JP finds it wherever the music takes him.
