featuring local musicians
Bruce Ackley, Matthias
Bossi,
Ben Goldberg,
Aurora Josephson, Carla
Kihlstedt, and
Jon Raskin, playing solos
to/against clips wrenched out of feature films
by Konrad Steiner. This is a variation of what
Jon Raskin's Quartet did at APL last month.
There will be approx 30-40 minutes of music in
addition to a complimentary buffet and one glass
of beer or wine free with admission. Sorry the
ticket's so steep, but it's a benefit.

The movies rely on music heavily to color an
actor's performance. Even silent movies were
never silent when shown. Tonight we mute the
movies and invite musicians to take over,
playing live solos and duets to create their own
parallel composed and/or improvised tracks to
brief excerpts from feature films.
In an homage to the silent-era skill of
communicating only with the face, the excerpts
feature non-dialog moments of expression
processed near to abstraction, drawing out the
subleties of the actors' art.
What'll be shown is a players' choice from a
grab-bag of scenes featuring Joan Crawford,
Humphrey Bogart, Naomi Watts, Greta Garbo,
Nicole Kidman, Monty Clift, Victor Mature,
Sigourney Weaver, Bette Davis and many others.
