BONES are rigid organs that form part of the endoskeleton of vertebrates. BONES come in a variety of shapes and are a beautiful substance with an intricate three-dimensional honeycomb-like structure involving a complex network of channels. The nature of BONES allows them to be lightweight yet strong and hard, while fulfilling their many other functions. BONES are not uniformly solid material, but rather has some spaces between its hard components. BONES can also be either woven or layered. BONES give structure and protection to organisms. BONES have unique resonant frequencies. Dude, BONES.
If Volition, Then... is the pilot-name of a quintet of improvising musicians from Mills College. Each member brings diverse experiences to the group which is comprised of Mike Dale (piano, sax), Jordan Glenn (drums, percussion), Jason Hoopes (bass), Amanda Schoofs (voice) and Andy Strain (trombone). These musicians met in the Fall of '06 and have since worked closely together while studying with Joelle Leandre, Fred Frith and Maggie Nicols among many others. Influenced equally by tonality, melody and song forms as noise, absurdity and abstraction, If Volition, Then... makes music that sounds like how you might make a house, a sandwich or a decision - enveloped thrice over in fate and boldly heedless of the shoulds which devour your inner ear.
