The Sixth Annual Matthew Sperry Memorial Festival, featuring John Butcher. This is the first evening of music in honor of bassist Sperry, and it features English saxophonist John Butcher, who he frequently collaborated with. Butcher is one of the most innovative improvisers on the scene today, utilizing multiphonics, upper register playing, and feedback. He has toured and broadcast in Europe, Japan, Australia and North America. Butcher has recorded with Derek Bailey, AMM's Eddie Prevost, Phil Minton, Andy Moore of The Ex, Steve Beresford, Thomas Lehn, and many others. He has written pieces for Chris Burn’s Ensemble, Polwechsel, and the Rova Saxophone Quartet.
