Lisa Mezzacappa & Nightshade
Bassist/composer Lisa Mezzacappa and her ensemble of improvisers perform a new series of wordless chamber songs inspired by the visual work of Israeli artist Yehudit Sasportas and Los Angeles artist Edgar Arceneaux. The group's musical world encompasses evocative melodies, abstract sonic landscapes and playful rhythmic juxtapositions, with influences ranging from Eric Dolphy to Olivier Messiaen to Blonde Redhead. Mezzacappa's new quintet makes its debut in Yerba Buena's ground floor galleries, surrounded by sprawling wall drawings by Sasportas and Arcenaux.
