NEW MUSIC IS HARD. Jumping beyond the collection of influences, experiences and education to come up with something not only new under the sun, but interesting, makes small work of artists accostomed to going through familiar motions. That's why the music featured this evening is so special. Each of the artists approaches music from the point of no return-- Think of the boundless, ever inspired drum work of Scott Amendola (Nels Cline), or Thomas Dimuzio's meticulous, overwhelmingly nuanced sound worlds. Their quartet with bassist JON EVANS (Tori Amos) and guitarist AVA MENDOZA (Carla Bozulich, and formerly of the very missed Mute Socialite) promises muscle and beauty, complexity theory and brutal FX. In support is DOMINIQUE LEONE's big band -- drums, synths, horns, oh my! -- playing a hybrid of minimalism, Beach Boys pop, proggy noise and what the Village Voice described as "impressively organic, detailed compositions that neither hide artifice nor flaunt it". As you might expect, this is going to be an intense show, with sounds coming from all directions and inspiration flying high. And that's a very good thing: new music is hard, but only because you get something you never had before.

Cost: $10
