Singlespeed Music presents Cory Wright Outfit and Ton Trio II; a double album release show!

The Cory Wright Outfit is a quintet hailing from Oakland, California led by west coast composer and multi-instrumentalist Cory Wright, joined by Steve Adams, alto sax and flute; Rob Ewing, trombone; Lisa Mezzacappa, bass; and Jordan Glenn, drums. This show celebrate the release of their debut album Apples + Oranges, a truly modern album featuring eight tracks of advanced compositions featuring high level improvising. Wright’s compositions utilize the timbral possibilities of the instrumentation of saxophones, trombone, flute, clarinet, bass and drums; the harmonic material is used both as a primary focal point and as a way to support soloists; the creative forms place the players in a variety of contexts for improvisations.

Ton Trio II with Aram Shelton, alto saxophone; Scott Brown, bass; Alex Vittum, drums. They are an avant/modern jazz trio that thrive in, and out of conventional structure. Drawing from Shelton’s bright and even folk-like compositions, the trio weaves continuously through melody, rhythm, and texture with written parts that serve as entry points for spacious improvisations. All three members play almost continuously, keeping the voices of melody, harmony and rhythm on an even level. Ton Trio II's album "On an On" represents the first six months of their existence with nine pieces developed during a monthly residency at the Layover in Oakland.
