Although a bit lacking compared to his later works from that period, "Atmospheres" contains Ligeti's signature textures, extreme pitch ranges, and complex clouds of instrumental timbres. If that isn't enough, the orchestra presents two other 20th century classics: Edgar Varese's "Arcana" and Maurice Ravel's "Daphnis and Chloe". A challenging program for any orchestra, these young players' enthusiasm will most likely make up for any lack of experience!
