Herbie Hancock says that great artists must always be reaching forward to new territory while also reaching one hand backward to bring the people forward and connect between past and future, known and unknown. In that Spirit, Beyond Words is an arts collective that centers the visceral nature of poetry by accompanying prolific poets live on stage with highly sensitive improvising musicians.

This date at Keys Jazz Bistro in the heart of historic North Beach, aims to make a nod towards the beat poet tradition in the area while also innovating, exploring and most importantly remaining open to the truth that the present moment brings.

Co-Led by poet Amos White, and the ferociously creative drummer and vibraphonist Dillon Vado, this date will feature stellar improvisers Ryan Pate on guitar and local luminary Lisa Mezzacappa on bass. The poets featured include writer/storyteller and former Black Panther Tureeda Mikell, and the incendiary and unforgettable SF Poet-Laureate, Tongo Eisen-Martin.
