On Friday, October 25 at 8:00pm, Tom's Place presents

Monopiece + Jaap Blonk
Nathan Corder - electronics
Matt Robidoux - guitar
Timothy Russell - percussion
Jaap Blonk - voice, electronics

Hey, Jaap Blonk is performing with Monopiece (Nathan Corder (electronics), Matt Robidoux (guitar), Timothy Russell (percussion)) at Tom's Place on Friday evening! This event is an Oakland Freedom Jazz Society presentation -- practically that mostly means that Tim, not Tom, is in charge.

Jaap Blonk, visiting from the Netherlands, is a composer, performer and poet. He is one of the worlds premier exponents of sound poetry performance -- his renditions of Kurt Schwitters' Ursonate are not to be missed. (But, alas, probably not on Friday's program.) He is unique for his powerful stage presence and almost childlike freedom in improvisation, combined with a keen grasp of structure. We're pleased to have him back for the second time at Tom's Place.

His co-conspirators at this performance are, as I said, Monopiece, the trio of electronicizer (?) Nathan Corder, guitarist Matt Robidoux and percussionist Timothy Russell. While they list their instrumentation as guitar, percussion, and electronics, electronics describes far more than one third of their texture, since both guitar and percussion are amplified and electronically processed.

Check the quartet's new recording (recorded during Jaap's previous Bay Area visit in 2018 -- these things take time) out at https://cleanfeed-records.com/product/monopiece-jaap-blonk/ and don't miss this performance!
