Sat 4/19:
Scott Amendola + Michael Manring +
Karl EvangelistaThis Saturday, Wyldflowr welcomes a trio of truly eclectic, daring musicians.
Michael Manring has probably the most unique approach to the electric bass in the history of the instrument. His bass guitar allows him to switch string-tunings on the fly, giving him access to a range of harmonics and chords far beyond a normal bass. Check out “The Enormous Room” for an example.
Guitarist
Karl Evangelista, hailed by Signal to Noise magazine as “one of the most original instrumentalists and composers of his generation,” is one of the Bay Area’s busiest composer/performers and collaborators in the improvised music sphere. But whatever the setting, his voice on the guitar (reminiscent of Fred Frith and Sonny Sharrock) carves a unique space in the world.
Berkeley drummer
Scott Amendola has provided a turbo-charged flow of creativity for the Bay Area music scene since the mid-1990s both as a ubiquitous sideman (Nels Cline, Charlie Hunter, Laurie Anderson, etc.), and a bandleader with a knack for composing thrilling anthems.
