Brett Larner is a koto player currently residing in San Leandro. He studied koto in Tokyo under the master Kazue Sawai and holds a master's license from the Sawai So-Kyokuin. While active with the traditional and contemporary koto repertoire, Larner is primarily an improviser. He has played, recorded or studied with musicians including Anthony Braxton, Loren Mazzacane Connors, Kevin Drumm, John Fahey, Fred Frith, Gianni Gebbia, Sachiko M, Phil Minton, Toshimaru Nakamura, Pauline Oliveros, Jim O'Rourke, Yoshihide Otomo, Tadao Sawai, Taku Sugimoto, Yuji Takahashi and Richard Teitelbaum.
