About Us
Dave DeFilippo
musician + researcher
Dave DeFilippo is a musician and researcher from the Bay Area. His papers and presentations on improvisation, dynamical systems and musical synthesis, and music interfaces, can be found internationally in ArXIV, IEEE, ICMC and KEAMS. He previously worked in research at CNMAT on gestural control software and the concept of naming in various applications to technology and culture. Later moving to San Diego, he completed a Ph.D in Music at UCSD. He had the privilege of working with Miller Puckette, Shlomo Dubnov, Bob Ostertag, Adrian Freed and David Wessel over the years. Artistically, Dave builds real-time performance systems for sound synthesis, set up in the fashion of modules networked by signals and analysis data. His work concerns the convergence, by deep mathematical synthesis, of disparate sound materials into constantly evolving phase structures controlled with gestural-touch inputs. Albums of computer and electroacoustic music are available at https://davedefilippo.bandcamp.com/
