Working as an improvising musician and composer, including ambient/electronic/soundscapes informed by architecture, urban life, nature.

Bay Area bassist and composer Todd Larson is the chief instigator of "Groupo Neutrino", a collective of improvising musicians interested in the possibilities of free and conducted improvisation. His Minneapolis electric chamber trio "Basic Food Group" had produced new original recordings since 1993.
Todd developed his musical voice growing up in Minneapolis, where he worked with a diverse group of artists, including Yanni and players in the scene surrounding Prince’s Paisley Park studio. He developed a reputation as a creative session bassist, crafting unique contributions in a variety of styles including jazz, R&B, soundtracks and rock. His ongoing band Basic Food Group developed out of his interest in experimental music, acquired while attending art school in the mid 1980s.
His 8-channel immersive sound installation “To Hear You Speak” pioneered the use of digital audio in art galleries in 1988. Since then, he has continued to create digital sound compositions for film, art, and commercial music. He has performed at venues such as Paisley Park Studios, the Weisman Art Museum, the Center for New Music and the Dome Center for Art, Music and Dance. He has been awarded fellowships by the Minnesota State Arts Board and James P. Shannon Leadership Institute. Current work includes concept based improvisations with musicians, visual artists and creative movers and shakers of all types. Todd continues to seek creative collaborators, and has performed and recorded with Dream Kitchen, Cheap Charms, Mish-Mash and Strange Meeting.
