A versatile, virtuosic, and eclectic flutist, Anita Chandavarkar has performed in major venues throughout the United States, and abroad, such as Symphony Hall in Boston, Millennium Park Stage, and historic Green Mill jazz club in Chicago, and charming theaters in Cupello, Italy. Her steadfast dedication to learning and embracing various musical traditions, has led her to collaborate with a wide variety of ensembles, spanning the avant-garde, to folk, to electronica.

Anita's experience as an orchestral player is vast, having performed in several orchestras, such as the Lakeshore Symphony, and more notably, the latest Bay Area music startup, South Bay Symphony. She has also performed under the tutelage and batons, of such artists, as director of Orchestre National de Belgique, Hugh Wolff, director of Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Josh Weilerstein, and internationally renowned composer, John Adams. As an advocate of avant-garde music, Anita has also performed many pieces from revered composers like Salvatore Sciarrino, and Tristan Murail.

Although she is mainly classically trained, Anita is always learning and performing in new traditions of music making. Currently a bansuri (Indian bamboo flute) disciple in the Maihar Gharana tradition, Anita has given performances in the form of raga, in intimate house concerts, as well as the University of Chicago's Oriental Institute. She is also currently studying jazz under a lineage, that involves directly, Joe Henderson, jazz tenor saxophone legend.

As an educator, Anita is dedicated to achieving music literacy amongst her students. She has over ten years of experience, and had her beginnings volunteering as a flute instructor for the Chicago All-City Band. In this band, she taught underserved children from Chicago, flute and general music.

Anita holds a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University. Her former teachers include Walfrid Kujala, former Chicago Symphony Orchestra Piccolo, Paula Robison, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center founding Artist Member, and Doriot Anthony Dwyer, former Principal Flute of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She has also participated in many masterclasses of such notable educators and performers as Leone Buyse, and Italian piccoloist, Nicola Mazzanti. Her current teacher on bansuri is Chicago-based flutist Lyon Leifer, and in jazz is San Francisco Bay Area-based saxophone player, Kristen Strom.
