Jake Rowland is a musician and visual artist based in Oakland, CA.

My music is rooted in free improvisation and I have drawn inspiration over the years from everything from jazz to punk. I sometimes structure projects under a conceptual framework. I began making music in the late 80s in punk rock bands, immersed myself in jazz and avant-garde music in the 90s, and eventually began to concentrate on the electric guitar. In recent years I have been increasingly working with guitar and electronics: effects, loops and live recording, as well as participating in group free improvisation.
